FivePoint's joint venture will sponsor the Great Park Balloon for the next five years, ensuring that the iconic symbol of City of Irvine will stay aloft. As an added bonus, rides on the balloon will be free during weekly operating hours on Thursday through Sunday. Adults had been charged $10 per ride, with rides $5 for those under 18.
While the balloon is popular with visitors to the Orange County Great Park— approximately 500,000 have enjoyed the 10-minute flight since its launch—it had been historically operating at a financial loss, and the City of Irvine officials were considering canceling future flights, grounding the Great Park Balloon permanently.
“The Great Park Balloon has become Irvine’s signature icon,” says Wendy Haase, vice president of Destination Irvine. “It is utilized throughout our destination marketing efforts, so we are grateful to FivePoint for making this investment.
