Everyone knows about the health, wellness, and therapeutic benefits of pets like dogs and cats. But chickens? It seems that chickens offer significant benefits for people of all ages, helping folks unwind and de-stress. They are being used as therapy animals across the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom to help those suffering from anxiety, depression, isolation, loneliness and dementia.
Residents of Great Park Neighborhoods and visitors to Irvine’s Orange County Great Park have easy access to a coop of chickens at the Farm & Food Lab.
Solutions for Urban Agriculture operates Farm + Food Lab, in partnership with the City of Irvine and the UCCE Master Gardeners of Orange County. A.G. Kawamura, a third generation urban farmer from California, is chairman of Solutions for Urban Agriculture. Through his company, Orange County Produce, he is engaged in building an exciting, interactive 21st century 100-acre agricultural showcase at the Orange County Great Park. FivePoint’s joint venture is a longtime supporter of Solutions for Urban Agriculture and Farm + Food Lab.
The current location is a working and dynamic organic agricultural space—with chickens! So when you are in need of a bit of Zen in your day, or have kids who love chickens (most do), head over to the Orange County Great Park.
